Housing Navigator-Nashville Area Command
The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for a Housing Navigator for the Nashville Area Command, located in Nashville, Tennessee.
Supervises, coordinates and monitors day-to-day operations of the outreach program; ensures compliance with program policies and procedures and works to secure affordable housing for clients leaving the encampment or places unsuitable for habitation environments and/or rapid rehousing opportunities; prepares statistical reports and administers the program budget.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of the principles and practices of social service case management. Knowledge of social service programs and community resources. Knowledge of substance abuse, relapse prevention, recovery, and sexual abuse. Knowledge of the 12-step program. Knowledge of emotional or mental disorders. Knowledge of case management with homeless population. Skills in active listening techniques. Knowledge of computer software such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access or Word Perfect. Ability to organize and maintain records effectively and efficiently. Ability and willingness to work from a team approach.
Education and Experience
Or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to manage multiple, concurrent activities. Ability to plan and organize work. Ability to be assertive, set boundaries and handle stressful situations.
Ability to type, file, sort and operate general office equipment. Ability to empathize and serve as a role model, exercising good judgment and make a responsible decision with minimum supervision. No evidence of substance abuse for a minimum of two (2) years.
Work may require the ability to lift and carry and / or push/pull heavy (50 – 100 plus lbs.) materials, supplies, and equipment frequently. Heavy mobility: duties are usually performed by combinations of standing, walking, climbing ladders or steps, bending, reaching, or transporting merchandise on frequent change basis relieved by fewer periods of sitting or operating a vehicle. Work is performed in an office environment where there are little, or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
