POSITION OVERVIEW

The Design Manager is responsible for the design and warranty of all product manufactured in the Pembroke facility, including modifications to existing product and new product launch. This position reports directly to the General Manager and oversees Product Development, R&D and MDM. The Design Manager also liaises with the Corporate Design Team to ensure consistency of product and collaboration across various design platforms.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


Design Engineering:

·Manages the KI Canada Design Engineering Team

·Plans, coordinates, directs, and controls the design and costing of special products

·Leads New Product Development projects toward completion, meeting objectives in the most effective and efficient manner, and in support of corporate objectives

·Initiates PCN’s, ECN’s and drawings as well as drawing revisions for all products

·Is responsible for the development, build, and production of full-scale prototype and preliminary test samples

·Is responsible for the creation of bills of materials, part numbers and drawings

·Assists in resolving manufacturing production issues

·Is responsible for jigs, fixtures, and patterns needed for production and also provides direction to manufacturing for tooling requirements

·Ensures compliance with all rules and regulations including ISO, safety and environmental rules and regulations


Communication:

·Communicates timelines, progress, and recommendations, both internally and externally

·Resolves technical issues with supervisors, customers, dealers and installers


Leadership:

·Is responsible for the leadership, development, performance management and evaluations of the Design Engineering, MDM, and R&D Departments


QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

·Bachelor’s in Design Engineering or equivalent

EXPERIENCE

·Minimum of 5 years design engineering experience

·Mechanical engineering experience would be an asset

·Prefer experience in the furniture industry

·Experience with consumer or commercial products is an asset

CERTIFICATIONS/

LICENSES

·Valid driver’s license required

KNOWLEDGE/

SKILLS/

ABILITIES

·Must be able to read, interpret, and use blueprints/drawings, reports, etc.

·Ability to make technical presentations

·Experience in Lean Manufacturing

·Understanding of ISO, especially 14000 and 9000

·Strong background in material selection and application

·Must be able to multi-task

·Experience with CAD, CREO, Windchill, Word, Excel

·Must be above average in computer knowledge and abilities

·Knowledge of BPCS preferred

·Experience with DFM preferred

·Good financial acumen

·Advanced verbal and written communication skills

·Proven strong leadership capabilities

·Professional and positive attitude

OTHER SPECIAL (NON-PHYSICAL) REQUIREMENTS

·On-Call and Overtime

·National and Out of Country Travel may-be required

·Frequent interaction with others
