Under the direction of the Association Director of Early Learning, the Early Learning Director will be responsible for programming for children age 6 and under including, but not limited to part day Preschool programs, full day Early Learning programs, Play & Learn, Kids Zone and Kid’s Night Out. The position responsibilities will include program development, implementation, promotion and evaluation, staff development and supervision, and fiscal management in accordance with Center and Association goals, objectives and policies.



This position requires one of the following education qualifications in addition to at least 3 years of relevant experience in planning, organizing and supervising early learning programming:   


  • A Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education or elementary education with a kindergarten endorsement and grades of C or better.
  • Any Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university must include one (1) of the following:
    • Fifteen (15) credit hours in college level courses with documented content relating to the needs, skills, development, or teaching methods of children six (6) years of age or younger and grades of C or better.
    • A CDA. NOTE: If a director has any of the certificates/credentials listed below instead of a CDA it will be an approved equivalent;

Certified Childcare Professional (CCP)

Preschool Associates Credential (PAC)

Administrators Certificate approved by the Division

  • A two (2) year associate’s degree in early childhood education from an accredited college or university, with a grade of C or better and a minimum of three (3) years of experience in an early childhood program.


Incumbent must have strong leadership and organizational skills.  Strong skills are also necessary in supervision, management, income production, expense control, public relations, promotion, communication, fund-raising, grant-writing and record-keeping.


The incumbent should be knowledgeable about current trends in the field of Early Learning.  Knowledge of and experience with Indiana State Licensing standards and Paths to Quality rating system strongly preferred.


Incumbent must be able to establish good rapport with families, children, staff and community leaders



*Designated as a First Responder in the event of an emergency.

  • Develops, administers and controls the designated budgets, including meeting income targets and expense control, in consultation with the Association Director of Early Learning.
  • Serves as a designated First Responder in emergency situations and ensures appropriate procedures are followed, contacts are made and documentation is completed.
  • Selects, trains, supervises and evaluates paid and volunteer department staff.
  • Ensure program operations are in compliance with State licensing standards, as applicable.  Maintain department records and documentation to meet state licensing requirements and Paths to Quality standards, and prepare reports as needed.
  • Assist in creation and management of department budget including regular review of finances to ensure financial targets are being met.   
  • Evaluate programs and recommend changes based on compatibility with the Center and Association goals. 
  • Supervises and is accountable for care and maintenance of department equipment and facilities.
  • Stays connected to and involved with local and statewide early childhood community groups in identifying and responding to community needs and issues.
  • Provides leadership to, and participates in the annual campaign.
  • Shares responsibilities for Center supervision, public relations, program development, planning and promotions as needed.
  • Interprets Association goals, objectives and policies to the community and constituency.
  • Assists with any other projects or activities as assigned.
