POSITION SUMMARY

The Teacher I is responsible for directing all aspects of the assigned classroom program for the YMCA Preschool Program, including but not limited to, executing the curriculum, assisting with Preschool Program events, communicating with parents and volunteers and working with the Preschool department team to provide a safe and nurturing program for children.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• At least 21 years of age

• Minimum 2 years experience in early childhood education or 1 year experience in early childhood education having met the requirements for CDA certification

• Knowledge of children ages 2-6 and an understanding of their needs and development

• Specific knowledge of preschool curriculum, specifically age-appropriate crafts, music, literature and group activities

• Experience in supervising children and staff and handling conflict situations with parents and staff

• Current certifications in CPR AED, First Aid, Child Abuse Prevention, Safety & Risk management and other training required for YMCA Preschool employees or the ability to obtain within 60-90 days of employment

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Ability to visibly observe children

2. Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with staff, parents, program participants and the general public

3. Ability to work as a team member

4. Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding personal information on children, family and YMCA staff

5. Ability to hear distress signals and respond accordingly

6. Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. and transport classroom equipment from one location to another

7. Ability to walk, stand, sit, stretch, push, pull and/or lift objects and work in a kneeling position

8. Ability to walk up and down 20-30 steps
