Description: This position will perform legal, clerical and secretarial duties as required, process new collection business and follow through to the judgment phase. Must demonstrate excellent client relations skills.


  • Review and open all new files on collection system; obtain new client and matter numbers as needed; Process conflict checks and searches
  • Draft legal documents for attorney review and signature – correspondence and pleadings, such as Summons & Complaint, Judgments, Notice of Entry, Affidavit of Facts, etc., from information provided by client/Creditor
  • Skiptrace to obtain addresses on new files as needed
  • Complete service with payments to process servers, as well as prepare Affidavits of Mailing
  • Prepare and send Affidavits of Facts to clients for their signature; Prepare Default Judgments for Supreme and City Courts; Prepare Orders and Affirmations for City Court judge’s signature for approval of attorney’s fees;
  • Enter judgments into collection system and distributes files to appropriate collector; Prepare Notice to Judgment Debtor; Prepare initial transcript after judgment has been filed
  • Ensure that written communications are appropriately drafted, written, reviewed, edited, proofed, finalized, signed, distributed, and filed for effective and efficient retrieval
  • Enter electronic receipts into Chrome River for attorney expenses


  • 2+ year’s office experience; litigation collections experience preferred
  • Associates degree or equivalent work experience preferred
  • Knowledge of electronic filing procedures in all Bankruptcy and State Court venues (Supreme, Surrogates, District Court, as well as Bankruptcy Courts in other states)
  • Proofreading skills and attention to detail is required
  • Proficiency in MS Office required
  • Good organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload
  • Demonstrate consistent logic, rationality, and objectivity in decision making
  • Effective verbal and written communication, including clear and professional phone skills
  • Must be proactive and diligent
  • Excellent client service and listening skills
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work with diverse personalities with various levels of the organization
  • Ability to manage time efficiently and work independently as well as coordinate with a team
  • Military experience welcome
