The Columbus Dispatch, Ohio’s capital city newspaper, seeks an education reporter who is a driven self-starter passionate about telling great stories, making an impact and holding public officials accountable. The reporter, part of a team of three covering education in central Ohio, will focus on Columbus City Schools, the state's largest and one of its most diverse districts with nearly 50,000 students. The ideal candidate will have a track record of asking tough questions, cutting through the buzz, digging into data and public records, and helping readers understand the broader causes, context and consequences of the day’s headlines. The person should be able to juggle breaking news, features and in-depth enterprise and investigative stories for The Dispatch and Gannett’s larger USA TODAY network. This reporter will follow the money and those spending it, dissect complex problems facing schools, highlight the people and programs that make them better, and chronicle how the COVID-19 pandemic is disrupting learning. And this person will tell those stories in engaging and innovative ways on a variety of digital and print platforms.
