Convention Center Technician - Convention Center
Under general supervision, to perform a variety of manual duties including building maintenance, repair, and custodial work. Perform maintenance on the facility, lighting, sound system, equipment, communication and wireless connection devices. Maintain composure and provide excellent customer service to all patrons at the facility.
This is not a supervisory position.
IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Set up and tear down of tables, chairs, staging, equipment, etc. as required for events planned at the Convention Center.
Provide assistance to the caterers to ensure that their needs are met before, during, and following the conclusion of events.
Ensure that event set-ups are complete and accurate. At the end of work shift, ensure that the area is ready for customer use.
Maintain and operate lighting and sound systems; immediately notify Facility Maintenance of any heating and cooling problems.
Perform general custodial work to include cleaning the building, floors, concession stands, restrooms, kitchens, etc.
Change out light fixtures as needed; perform minor plumbing, repairs, and paint.
Maintain an inventory of equipment and supplies. Track supplies used during events.
Facilitate and assist customers in the preparation of their events including decorating and setting up special events; ensuring safety, good customer service, and building security and preservation.
Monitor in-progress events to ensure success.
Prepare refreshments as required for events planned at the Convention Center (coffee, tea, soda, etc.).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Principles, practices, occupational hazards, and safety precautions of general maintenance work.
General carpentry, electrical, and routine plumbing work.
Provide exceptional customer service.
Use and maintain a variety of tools and equipment used in building maintenance and custodial work including high speed buffer, floor scrubber, hydraulic lift ladder, vacuum, carpet extractor, dishwasher and kitchen appliances.
Safely operate a motor vehicle.
Operate a variety of office equipment and a two-way radio.
Multi-task, prioritize, and work under high pressure demands.
Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Operate, or learn to operate, lighting and sound equipment.
Connect, reset, install minor wireless devices (modems, routers, phones, etc.).
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, both internally and externally.

This is an entry level position.
Previous maintenance experience and experience using minor equipment is desired.
A high school diploma or GED is required.
License or Certificate:
A valid Texas driver’s license; the ability to obtain one within ninety (90) days of employment, or a military waiver is required.
Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment:
Ability to reach and lift objects above your head.
Ability to climb a 12 foot ladder and use the genie lift up to 20 feet high.
Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, and twist.
With or without accommodation, ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
